We have all learned the expensive lesson to be prepared for bad weather. Morris County Elevator has a few suggestions to help prevent a problem before it starts and we want to remind you we are here if you need our help.<\/p>\n<h4>Prepare and educate.<\/h4>\n<p>Here are some steps you should take before a storm and make sure you educate your tenants and staff what to do in case of a storm.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You should have your elevator company\u2019s emergency phone number.<\/li>\n<li>Facility managers should inspect elevator machine room\u2019s ventilation openings, windows and doors for possible rain leakage.<\/li>\n<li>Close all vents and openings at the top of the hoist-way to prevent water from entering the elevator shaft.<\/li>\n<li>Move elevator cars to a safe distance from the ground, middle floors or higher.<\/li>\n<li>Disconnect all power to the elevators.<\/li>\n<li>Have an electrician check your emergency lighting and surge protection for when the power does come back on.<\/li>\n<li>Check for water damage before restarting the elevators. The best way to do this is to locate mechanical equipment associated with the elevator above the Base Flood Elevation (BFE). NFIP flood insurance coverage is limited for elevator equipment.
